I’m hot

It’s not just the iPhone 11 … nor the earth

The iPhone 11 was released on September 20 this year. No, I didn’t accidentally press the key twice; there have been that many descendants of the holy iPhone.

With an iPhone 6 in my pocket, I can’t help but notice the hype encompassing the Apple store when a new product is fresh out of Silicon Valley.

And, boy, do I want to be a part of it.

Advancing technology is fundamental to our Western society; from the printing press all the way to 3D printing, we have constructed our way to the top tier.

This is so important to us because it’s where both our money and attention go —  our eyes don’t focus go toward something like, you know, climate change, and for good reason.

Just take a look at the new iPhone 11. It now includes “the toughest glass ever in an iPhone,” improved water resistance, the revolutionary dual-lens camera, and 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD Display. Let me just say, these features sound so much cooler than any jargon I learned in AP Environmental Science.

Climate change. The greenhouse effect. Green energy. Alternative renewable fuels. Why should I care when I have a Liquid Retina HD Display!?

We have even seen the effect of climate change in our own community, which is why we need to do a better job at averting our eyes from the tragedies. In fact, the iPhone 11 comes with the all-new iOS 13, providing the standard activity app that can measure our heart rates as we continue to run away from our problems.

After all, America continues to make money from technological innovation and distribution, so we might as well just focus on that.

It doesn’t matter if energy could actually keep green (money) from using green (energy, of course) and ensure that America is the frontrunner in developing such technologies for the rest of the world to follow.

What offers instant (and effortless) gratification at the moment is that three-camera cluster, not some dream of combating climate change. We may be in a climate emergency, but, more importantly, imagine all the selfies I can take with that camera.

So let’s go stand in line for the new iPhone 11, let’s not waste our time. They’re going to sell out soon! Don’t worry about the trash lining the sidewalks and fossil fuel fumes filling our atmosphere!

Because let’s face it: the iPhone is more important. It provides me with an “out” from all the issues surrounding us, whereas climate change is just something else to add to my list of anxieties.

And for now, I’m just going to relax in my room with my eyes glued to the blue light.

Wait … is it getting hot in here?

P.S. Students, we can reverse this narrative. Ms. Kokiousis, I love your class.
