The MCMS soccer program has been strung together by the district. One of the most important people in the process of starting the soccer team was MCMS Dean of Students Alexis Bouyadjain. There were a lot of students who wanted to try out but only so many could make it. The team is co-ed, meaning that it contains both boys and girls. The coach has had semi-pro playing experience at the National Premier Soccer League level.

If anyone would like to support the team at their games, the first game is away at AC Stelle on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3:15 p.m. The next game is a home game at Medea on Wednesday, Oct. 19 against AE Wright. Lastly, the big rivalry game against Lindero Canyon Middle School is at Medea on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:15 p.m.

“It’s one thing to be a player on the field, but it is another thing to be able to hold those morals off the field,” said Coach Nick Meratti, when asked why he wanted to lead the team. “Things like good sportsmanship, owning up when you make mistakes.”

Meratti says that he sees these qualities in his players and hopes for the program to continue next year with new players who are also passionate about the sport. Many of the players share Meratti’s excitement and contribute to the overall happiness of everyone on and around the team.

“When I heard that there was gonna be a soccer team I was very happy,” said forward Pol Cufi. “It is a sport I enjoy, and being able to play with my friends is just a great experience.”
