Basketball team adds their own choreography to solidify their win

The annual showdown was hosted on Nov. 15 located in the gym. With the bleachers filled to the brim, and people spilling out into the hallways of the gym, seven sports teams guided by members of the dance team competed for the cash prize.

After a variety of talented and exciting performances, votes were cast in through messages by texting the numbers of the sport’s teams. The baseball team won first, followed by the boys’ basketball team who won second, and the MCMS cheerleaders and girls’ volleyball team who tied for third.

Behind the scenes, the teams had a lot of fun getting to know each other and preparing for their performances both on the coaching and team perspective.

“My experience was really good,” junior Madison Chang said. “It’s really fun coaching the basketball boys, they were really entertaining and I loved watching them dance. My favorite part is we had a practice really late at night, and we often get food and bond over food.”

The basketball team had a lot of fun preparing for the show, although the members of the basketball team enjoyed performing the most.

“It was really fun,” junior Ryan Niazi said. “We had late practices, the team was really cohesive and it was an overall, very enjoyable experience. My favorite part was doing the showdown itself, and even if we messed up in certain areas, it was just funny and we were just having fun as a group.”

Not only high schoolers participated in showing off all the hard work they’ve dedicated over the past few months—also middle schoolers.

“This is my second time [being in the showdown] but this time I was teaching the girls,” Avery Calima said. “It was really fun and good to see how far these girls [medea creek cheerleading team] have come because they didn’t know a lot of stuff when they first came in.”

Swim team trio busts out a clean move to close out their performance

Tied in third were also the girls’ volleyball team, who thoroughly enjoyed dancing and enjoyed the competition that the other teams presented during the showdown.

“Quite honestly, I think we did better than baseball,” senior Andrea Mise said, “but, you know. We caught the most air of the sun, we were the most in sync. We did really good complex dances, it’s kind of a disappointment.”

Coming in first was the baseball team. Feeling proud of their efforts, they have good hopes that their winning streak will continue.

“I have only the best emotions right now,” senior Royce Willis said, “I can’t believe we won. You know, repeat winners, we’re a dynasty now. I think my children are going to go on to win baseball showdowns. So the lineage is looking pretty set.”
