The music of the times

Artists perform online concerts on Instagram live

As the COVID-19 spreads throughout the world forcing many people to remain indoors, people are trying to find ways to stay connected and avoid boredom.

#TogetherAtHome is a campaign started by @glbctzn on Instagram, an organization of people from around the world working to help end world hunger, and the World Health Organization, where musicians from around the world put on free concerts while staying at home. Many artists, including Her, One Republic, Jennifer Hudson and many others, have taken this opportunity to connect with their fans and keep everyone in contact while still practicing social distancing.

“We are going to sing you a few songs today because social distancing doesn’t have to be boring. This is a crazy time and we are going to get through this together … we are going to connect and make each other smile in the meantime,“ singer Camila Cabello said during her online concert with singer Shawn Mendes on March 20, 2020.

Artists, including John Legend, Vance Joy, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes and Chris Martin are using their online influence to try and bring people together.

As numbers continue to rise for cases of COVID-19 around the world, people are looking to social media as a way to stay connected and stay informed.

According to ReachOut.com, music can help “elevate your mood and motivation, aid in relaxation and increase the efficiency of brain processing.

Music is just one way that people can stay connected and entertained during these uncertain times. There are many other ways you can help the global effort to combat the effects of COVID-19.

“Head over to globalcitizen.org/coronavirus to see how you can help out and support the World Health Organization during this pandemic … look after yourself if you can, and thank you for all of your support,” artist Hozier said at the end of his #TogetherAtHome performance on March 21, 2020.

Many more artists and bands will perform in the upcoming weeks. To stay connected and know when your favorite artists will perform follow @glbctzn on Instagram and enjoy a concert from home.
