The NFL offseason is now in full swing. A few weeks after the Super Bowl, trade speculation is starting to pick up. The problem is, that nothing exciting is in the books. It’s all the same; Justin Fields away from the Bears, Caleb Williams to Washington or Chicago? There is no real movement for any superstar trades at the moment. However, the NFL offseason is a different beast. Stuff happens in the blink of an eye. Today, we are going to have a look at some wild trade scenarios that could, but probably wouldn’t, happen.
Let’s start with a basic trade for a not-so-basic player. Is Justin Jefferson on the move out of Minnesota? Even if he is, it would probably be on his own terms. However, the Vikings are looking like they might be headed toward a rebuild if they can’t nab a quarterback and keep Jefferson, so the possibilities here are endless. How about the Patriots? They want to go back to winning ways. This trade is absolutely ridiculous, but fun to think about.
Patriots receive: WR Justin Jefferson
Vikings receive: No.3 overall pick(to be used on a QB), and a 2025 first-rounder
Trade Probability: 3%
No way the Vikings move on from their best receiver of all time. We can only wonder and hope.
Next up, let’s talk about the Miami Dolphins. More importantly, another disappointment in Miami. Let’s just say that Tyreek Hill wants out, where too now? The dolphins could trade him and Tua and kickstart their rebuild. What’s a team that could use a good receiver, specifically one of the best in the league? Well, every team, but still. What about my personal favorite team, the Baltimore Ravens? I may be fantasizing a little too much, but think about it. Odell Beckham Jr. is guaranteed to be gone, and Zay Flowers has potential for sure, but maybe not WR1-type potential just yet. Obviously, the Ravens have one of the best defenses, and now their offense would be juiced up as well. Let’s look at this idea.
Ravens receive: WR Tyreek Hill
Dolphins receive: 2025 first-rounder, 2025 second-rounder, CB Rock Ya-Sin
Trade Probability: 6%
If Tyreek gets disgruntled and doesn’t like the warm weather anymore, he’ll be fast on his way to Baltimore.
Let’s move on to a second-year player, named a first-team All-Pro. They are also a cornerback, so you probably know who I’m talking about. Sauce Gardner might be on the move out of NY! Not actually, but it’s fun to think about this. Making a trade for one of the league’s most valuable players is always hard, but this one was extra difficult. It’s just impossible to fathom this trade happening. Now who needs a cornerback? The Bengals could definitely use a corner. Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and … Sauce Gardener!
Bengals receive: CB Sauce Gardner
Jets receive: T Orlando Brown Jr., 2024 second-rounder, 2025 first-rounder
Trade Probability: 12%
Probably not going to happen … but desperate times call for desperate measures.
This last trade proposal is a little more realistic. Stefon Diggs is unhappy in Buffalo. As said in Bleacher Report, “Diggs’ production recently could lead to more frustration even though it has come in Bills victories. He’s been held under 50 yards in four of the last five games after hitting that benchmark in each of the team’s first nine contests.” Now, many teams could use Diggs. One team, with his brother, is the Dallas Cowboys. This would make their receiving core the best in the league by far.
Cowboys receive: WR Stefon Digss
Bills receive: 2025 first-rounder, 2025 second-rounder
Trade Probability: 34%
This trade has a real chance of happening. However, most of these trades are just fun to think about. At the end of the day, the NFL offseason has some real promise and excitement coming up.
