The highly anticipated boys beach volleyball championship tournament concluded this weekend, showcasing dedication, great athleticism and strong team efforts. Although the boys did not make it to the final round, they approached each round with great skill and energy.
“A highlight of the championship tournament was playing in an intense point-for-point match that went into three sets with Royal” senior Ryan Rosenthal said. “Even though we ended up losing this round, we really left it all out on the sand.”
The game schedule for this tournament was stacked with fierce competitors, making for some great competitive play.
“TO was our first game, which we won, but they have a solid team and it was a good game,” senior Alex Newman said. “Next, we faced Royal in the semifinals, they have a great program and it was a very fun competitive game.”
This Royal game meant a lot to the team, as Royal and Oak Park are crosstown rivals.
“We both have great programs and anyone could’ve won that game. Unfortunately, Royal came out on top in the end. We ended up playing their second team and earning third place in the championship,” Newman said.
Seasons endings are often bittersweet for seniors but for some players, this is not a forever goodbye to playing beach volleyball.
“After high school, I’ll still do some beach volleyball for fun,” senior Brody Gallagher said. “I like the sport and will continue to play with my friends.”
One thing that stands out about this team is the meaningful friendships that have blossomed between teammates.
“I would have to shout out Adam Noy as he is fantastic in everything he does and never does anything wrong,” Rosenthal said. “He is the strongest and most handsome man on the beach and wins the smiles game the most.”
Make sure to wish these Eagles good luck as they now prepare for the Spring court volleyball season.
