The second annual Golf Fundraiser, run by Oak Park Education Foundation, will be held on Friday, March 19.

“Currently, the plan is whoever comes would play a scramble golf tournament with a putting tournament, a straight driving contest, and an auction to help earn money for all of the high school activities,” Vice Chairperson of the Oak Park Education Foundation Darren Smith, said.

The tournament is currently priced at $145 per player and $520 for a team of four.

“We mostly have people sign up in teams. Last year we raised around $10,000 and all that money just went to Oak Park activities and the education foundation,” Smith said.

Last year, the Golf Fundraiser was able to hold an outdoor picnic, raffles and other activities, similar to a ‘golf carnival.’ However, COVID-19 regulations have made it difficult to recreate this environment.

“We will obviously follow COVID regulations and are thinking of maybe doing a pick up for lunch and a nice picnic for the attendees. As for the auction, we are looking at doing it safely with masks and social distancing,” Smith said.

The hope is that people take the ‘golf carnival’ as an opportunity to leave their homes and go outside.

“Since this year it’s on a Friday, we just want everyone to have a good time. It’ll be nice to go outside for some activity without being cooped up and it’ll just be a fun time, so if you can come, you definitely should,” Smith said.
