New ASB Cabinet elected
Students vote online for their new OPHS leaders
Using Google Forms, students voted for their peers in the Associated Student Body elections on March 26 during the Friday advisory period.
To run for an officer position, students must fill out an application and interview for the class. Students must also fill out an “intent to run” form which tells ASB who will be running for which position. If an officer position is unopposed, then there is no election, but if the officer position is contested there is an election for that role in ASB.
“We set up the elections based on what positions people choose in their ‘intent to run’ form,” senior and incumbent ASB President Anna Stephens wrote to the Talon. “Then we notify candidates of their approval to run, which is based on criteria from the ASB application and other aspects of the process such as a candidate’s teacher recommendations, GPA and interview responses.”
During election week, students running for a position advertise themselves to try and gain students’ votes. Winners are announced by the end of the day that voting takes place.
“Like so many other parts of our lives, this entire process has changed drastically due to the pandemic,” Stephens wrote. “Everyone’s campaigns are strictly through social media this year.”
