Interim principal takes charge

Carter returns while Buchanan is out on sick leave

Pam Carter, who previously served as assistant principal for Oak Park High School has been appointed as interim principal while PrincipalKevin Buchananis out on sick leave.

“I shared with our Leadership Team last Friday that I have been diagnosed with a chronic condition that requires spinal surgery ASAP to prevent further deterioration and alleviate the current painful symptoms,” Buchanan wrote in a recent Parent Square post.

Buchanan will be out for six weeks and during that time Carter and the assistant principals Jason Meskis and Natalie Smith will assume various responsibilities. Their roles are outlined in a Google Document which was shared in the ParentSquare blast.

“Nothing in particular changes when an interim principal is brought into a school while the regular principal is out,” Carter wrote to the Talon. “The interim merely picks up where the other principal left off and carries out their responsibilities.  Nothing changes in terms of the way the school is run and all school policies remain in place.”

Carter also gave an update on Buchanan’s health.

“I spoke with him this morning, and he says he’s doing well, although he wished his recovery would be quicker. He is, of course, hoping to get back before graduation, but that will be up to his doctor,” Carter wrote.
