Athletic Director, Tim Chevalier, gives a speech at Spring Sports signing day.

On March 30, 2022, Oak Park High School held its official Spring signing ceremony in the Pavilion for seniors who have verbally committed to play a sport on the collegiate level.

The following athletes are committed to different schools for different sports: Charissa Shang is committed to Harvard University for women’s golf, Dylan Hardy and Benen Powers are both committed to Sonoma State University for men’s lacrosse and Maddy Parrone is committed to San Diego State University for women’s cross country and track and field.

The process leading up to an athlete’s commitment can be difficult but ultimately rewarding.

“It was really fun, I got to do things with my family and friends, I am committing with Benen Powers and we will be able to play four more years of college lacrosse together. Overall, the process was really good,” Hardy said.

Many coaches also participated on signing day by giving a speech about the athlete. Parents and students came to the pavilion to celebrate and also congratulate the committed athletes.

The student-athletes that participated in signing day showed much gratitude for their teams.

“I feel really honored and blessed to have people supporting me throughout this entire process. I’m really happy that I will be able to play for a team that supports both my goals and I am able to contribute and help them out as well,” Shang said.
