On April 10, the 2022-2023 Oak Park High School National Honors Society cabinet revealed the board positions for the next school year. The cabinet features one returning board member and four new board members.

Lila Zweig, current NHS Treasurer, was announced as the upcoming 2023-2024 president. Zweig shares her thoughts and upcoming plans for the next year.

“I’m beyond excited that I was picked to be on the board, and I am very grateful for the opportunity. I want things to be a lot different next year. I’m already starting to plan and organize the basics, forms, spreadsheets, etc. – and I’m coming up with lots of ideas on how to move forward,” Zweig said.

NHS is a nationwide organization that elevates student engagement amongst their community. Oak Park’s NHS board hopes to include more community members in next year’s service events.

“I’d like for there to be more events and an easier form of communication between the board and the members, and I’d love to include the Oak Park community in some of our events. I’d really like to branch out from just the school and involve more people,” Zweig said. “I also want to make sure the voices of the NHS members are heard: I want to know what we could be doing better, what kind of events/things they’d like to see in the club, and any other feedback that they may have. I’m elated for next year.”

Junior Bella Manuel was announced as next year’s NHS vice president. Her experiences propel her to create a variety of community service opportunities for next year, not just ones tailored for the sake of earning hours.

“Next year, I plan on doing as much as my position allows me to make NHS run as smoothly as possible, as well as suggest fun and accessible community service opportunities. I hope to help shift the focus of NHS from completing necessary hours for membership to finding community service opportunities that cater to personal interests!” Manuel said.

Junior Jackson Hill emphasized his excitement about being part of the board next year, and is looking to keep things consistent.

“I am quite excited to be part of the NHS team next year; it’s a fantastic opportunity and a great program. I’m not looking to make too much change, just want to go with the flow and do as much for the program as I can,” Hill said.

Junior Daniel Firoozabadi was announced as the treasurer of National Honors Society for the 2023-2024 school year. Firoozabadi’s dedication to service was an integral part of his selection to the NHS Board.

“I’m very excited to be selected to be on the NHS board and I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the board and introducing new members to the club. I feel that it’s a great opportunity to help my community, as well as future Oak Park Students. I think the main reason I was chosen was my passion for helping those in the community and for important causes, both of which are foundational values of NHS,” Firoozabadi said.

Junior Lindsay Gould has an expansive leadership background with her key role as part of the girls basketball team. Gould has many ideas about rebranding and internal organization.

“In my applications I listed lots of ideas about the future of NHS. Many of them involve improving the internal structure of the club. In addition, I had many ideas about rebranding the NHS social media,” Gould said.
