The Oak Park High School Music Department presented its first concert of the year with Music at the Movies in the Pavillion on Sep. 24 and 25. Concert band and wind symphony performed on the first night, while wind ensemble, strings and choir were on the second night.
First, they picked and practiced the pieces they were going to play. Some of the songs featured in their performances came from the movies “Moana,” “Rocky,” “Mary Poppins” and “Wonder Woman.”
“At rehearsals, the environment was very organized and focused, we made sure to get done what needed to be accomplished,” junior and flute player Anika Amladi wrote to the Talon. “During the event it was a little bit more chaotic just because there were more people going around preparing for the event. Nonetheless, it allowed for us to give a great performance that night.”
It wasn’t just the musicians who made the showcase such a success.
“Also, IMC [Instrumental Music Leadership] worked hard behind the scenes to make flyers, posters and social media posts to advertise the event,” sophomore and IMC member Sophie Bi wrote to the Talon. “For the concert, decor, tech, production and more made sure the event was possible.”

“OPHS can anticipate OPIMAs winter and spring concerts along with the music festival next semester, which includes both the high school band and the middle school band along with the choir and orchestra,” Amladi wrote.
