Oak Park High School freshman Rishi Prabhu was winning his debate round. At the most important tournament of the year– state qualifiers– Prabhu was dismantling his opponent’s case with facts that he was reading off of his computer. Then, it all came crumbling down.
“Yeah, my round was going pretty well,” Prabhu said. “As I was speaking, I had a sign-in error on my computer, ruining my debate round entirely.”
As Prabhu paused, looking down at his timer and wondering what he would do next, he was forced to sign out of his computer and sign back in.
“The sign-in errors were due to an update that was pushed out and caused Google to reset information every hour,” Director of Education Technology & Information Services Dana Thompson wrote to the Talon. “Even though it didn’t change information, it caused Chrome to log out of Google so students had to log back in.”
While the sign-in errors were a relatively minor inconvenience, they still forced students to finish the process every single time.
“Throughout the day, I would get multiple sign-in errors,” freshman Joey Garland said. “They were horrible because when I was taking a quiz in English, everything stopped working, and I was forced to restart.”
Thankfully, these errors will not be as much of a problem anymore.
“Once we found the cause of the problem, we made some settings changes,” Thompson said. “As far as we know, the problem was resolved.”
