Showdown season is upon us! On Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. in the gym, Oak Park High School will host its 4th annual showdown. The girls volleyball team is returning for another year in collaboration with dance and cheer, and they are feeling confident.
The team has been working very hard, making the time to practice every week. The team is dancing to a mashup of songs, including “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce, “tv off” by Kendrick Lamar and “No Hands” by Waka Flocka Flame.
“We decided on a theme of rappers because it’s super fun,” freshman and varsity dancer Tyler Campbell said.
They plan to wear white shirts with a cut on the neckline along with black shorts to go with the dance.
Seniors Andrea Mise and Athena Trewyn are excited to perform for their last time.
“It’s going to be legendary,” Mise said.
Senior and varsity dance member Bea Gorodetzki is also anticipating her last showdown.
“I’ve only done it two times but I’m sure this is going to be the best one yet!” Gorodetzki said.
The team is thrilled to have Bea as their coach.
“We’re dancing with the stars and Bea is the star,” Mise said.
While the team had some struggles correlating practices at first, as soon as they got into the groove, things started to work out.

“We came together to teach them some easier choreography, and it’s been going really well!” freshman and varsity dancer Liv Chaikin said. “They’ve even been adding some of their own to the dance.”
“The best part of the dance is the worm,” Trewyn said.
The coaches are proud that they were able to achieve the skill.
“We didn’t know if everyone was going to be able to do it, but the fact that they all can is so exciting,” Gorodetzki said.
Along with dance, they even learned to stunt.
“We had one practice just designated to the stunt, and were able to get them up in the air!” junior and varsity cheerleader Carter Rogers said.
The entire team cannot wait to compete.
“We are excited to beat baseball,” Mise said.
