Timotheè Chalamet? Is that you underneath the mask?
At some point this year, Esdeekid stopped being just another name floating around the internet and became ‘the’ artist that everyone seemed to know. One week, his songs were popping up on random reels and TikToks. The next, students were quoting lyrics in the hallway, reposting clips and arguing over which track was his best. His rise didn’t feel planned but instead inevitable.
Esdeekid’s breakout didn’t come from a traditional rollout or industry push. Instead, it happened the way fame often does now: fast, loud and online. Short clips of his music spread across platforms. His hit song already holds over 180 million streams in just 6 months of releasing it and surpassed the top 80 songs on the global Spotify chart.
“I was on TikTok and saw a video relating him to Timothee Chalamet, one of my favorite actors, and [Esdeekid] almost became like an internet craze,” freshman Anika Gossain said.
Social media played a major role in amplifying his rise. His songs become edits and trends almost overnight. That kind of promotion helped Esdeekid grow beyond a small online audience and reach a much wider group of listeners.
“His music is very unique, with a strong beat and clear rapping style,” junior Luke Hodges said.“It’s not like mumble rap, every word pierces through the music.”
The speed of his fame is what makes it so fascinating. Artists used to take years to build recognition, but Esdeekid’s climb happened in a matter of months.
“I’m not a huge fan of his music, but I applaud the reach he had with his fans,” freshman Aric Esmail said. “He grew from a few hundred thousand fans to millions in just a few days.”
On Dec. 19, 2025, Esdeekid and Chalamet put down the rumors and teamed up in the remixed version of the song “4 Raws”. The collaboration surprised fans, since Chalamet is best known as an actor rather than a musician. This publicity stunt also provided a platform for Chalamet to advertise his new film “Marty Supreme”.
The masked scouse rapper continues to shock the world, amplifying a niche genre of music and bringing it to the big stage. Esdeekid will be in West Hollywood in early February at venues like the Echoplex and The Roxy Theatre for those who are interested in joining the craze.
