Senior year: the final chapter. It’s not just about a score on a board anymore, for Isabella Harder, her high school career comes down to this final season.
“Being on our school’s soccer team has been such an unforgettable experience,” Harder said. “Some of the most memorable moments have been playing in competitive matches, building strong relationships with my teammates, and representing our school on the field.”
Harder has been a dedicated member of the girl’s soccer team for four years, making varsity her freshman year. Soccer has played a large role in shaping her personality.
“I definitely feel a mix of emotions, although it’s my last season and it’s coming to an end, it was a great journey and had a huge impact on my life,” Harder said.
Harder began playing soccer 12 years ago and has learned valuable lessons she will carry through the rest of her life.
“My favorite part about soccer has been getting to grow as a team and an individual,” Harder said. “It has taught me dedication, teamwork and communication skills with others.”
Once she graduates, Harder plans to attend community college for two years to continue her education.
“My goal is to complete my general education requirements so I can transfer to a 4 year university,” Harder said.
Harder is thankful for what the team has given her.
“There are so many pros, learning teamwork, accountability, and leadership, as well as creating friendships that go way beyond soccer,” Harder said.
Although her journey has been filled with positive experiences, she has still faced her fair share of challenges.
During a game, Harder tore her meniscus, a career-threatening injury. Harder took time working hard to get back in shape.
“Tearing my meniscus became a major setback for me, both physically and mentally,” Harder said. “I stayed committed to my recovery, followed my physical therapy, and focused on strengthening both my body and mindset.”
Now, Harder’s back, stronger than ever.
“Even though it was challenging, the experience pushed me to become more disciplined and mentally tougher,” Harder said. “I couldn’t contribute on the field the way I wanted to, but the experience helped me grow as a person and taught me how to overcome adversity while staying committed to a team”.
Watching Harder turn a setback into a comeback is inspiring. Her resilience in overcoming is incredibly noteworthy. Harder made a comeback story for the history books.
On Feb. 3, Harder celebrated her Senior night: her final game of the season, and a journey from childhood dreams to senior success.
“As I look back, I realize the scoreboards fade, but the memories I’ve made are forever,” Harder said. “Embrace the grind and the setbacks, they are merely the stepping stones to a story that is uniquely yours to write”.
Harder encourages and advises incoming players on trusting the process and maintaining resilience.
“If I had to give one piece of advice to upcoming freshmen, I would say to never give up, and the position you start in is never the position you end in,” Harder said. “Never stop pursuing your goals.”
