Television series based on Oak Park premieres soon

Fictional city Woodside designed as a community that welcomes and accepts people

A 21st century teen. A gothic warrior princess. Oak Park, California.

“Dwight in Shining Armor,” an action-adventure comedy series, premiered March 25 on BYUtv. The show follows the story of dorky and conflict-averse Dwight, who falls into an ancient, underground chamber only to awaken Greta, who has been magically sleeping for a millenium, and consequently awakening her hordes of enemies as well.

“Dwight In Shining Armor” creator and executive director Brian Adams and his wife, LeeAnne Adams, worked together to write and create this show. It is primarily based in Woodside, a fictitious community. However, the Adams, residents of Oak Park, based Woodside off of their hometown.

“We love Oak Park,” Brian Adams wrote to the Talon, “It’s our home, it’s the place we’re raising our kids. It’s a very peaceful place where people know their neighbors and try to accept each other for who they are.”

Both Dwight and Greta have to adapt to each other’s lifestyles, as a lot has changed over the course of 1,000 years. While exploring the woods, Dwight, Greta and her court magician Baldric encounter bizarre creatures and people, including witches, ogres, trolls, giants and knights.

“The community of Woodside welcomes them and accepts them all with open arms. We feel like Oak Park would probably do the same,” Brian Adams wrote. “Oak Park isn’t perfect, but as a community, it has high ideals and is striving to be a place where everyone is welcome. There are so many wonderful elements of Oak Park that we wanted to share with the world.”
