Letter from the locker room: Closing the doors

Saying goodbye to the OPHS softball program and my teammates is very emotional.

Of course this isn’t the ending I imagined. I have been a starting player on varsity for all four years of my high school career and a captain for three years. I truly have put blood, sweat and tears into this program. Undoubtedly it influenced my life and shaped the person I am today, on and off the field.

I have imagined senior day with my co-captain and only other senior, Aubrey Billig, since I first learned of it. We’ve played together for almost half our lives. But we won’t have that long-awaited last game together; no chance to hit a shot over the fence for our last at-bat or make the tag for the winning out. We won’t stand with our families in the circle, teammates surrounding us, experiencing the emotions that come with saying goodbye to our high school sport.

But, in the past few weeks I have had time to reflect on what we did get. We created countless memories, long-lasting friendships, played some great softball, and found our real sorority sisters.

OPSB teams 2016-2020: I am so thankful to have gone on this wild ride with you!

To the future players in the OPSB program: I can’t wait to be your biggest fan!
