The Oak Park High School girls soccer team is gearing up for a new season, and the players say they’re ready to compete. With returning talent and a focused preseason, the Eagles expect to start strong.
The girls had several influential seniors graduate, many of whom are now playing at collegiate level, but the returning core believes they are ready to set a new standard for the program this season.
“This season I want to keep raising the level for myself and for the team,” junior Natale Elazary said. “I’m focused on staying consistent, pushing the pace in training and setting a standard for how we compete. I want us to play with confidence, take control of games, and make a real run this year.”
Throughout the offseason workouts and preseason practices, the Eagles have emphasized consistency and preparation. Elazary relies on a clear routine to stay composed before matches.
“I try to keep things pretty simple. I make sure I’m focused, hydrated and mentally in a good place,” Elazary said. “I usually listen to music, get a good stretch in and hype myself up a bit. I like going into games feeling calm but ready to compete.”
As an attacking midfielder, Elazary also plays a key role in shaping Oak Park’s rhythm and organization during games.
“I play attacking mid, and in that role I’m involved in a lot of key moments,” Elazary said. “Whether it’s controlling the rhythm, creating chances, winning the ball back or helping organize the field, I try to be someone who keeps us steady and drives the team forward. I do whatever it takes to keep us competitive throughout the match.”
On the defensive end, junior goalkeeper Claire Murray said she is confident in the team’s potential on the contributions of new players stepping into major roles.
“I’m a goalkeeper. I’m looking forward to hopefully winning the league and improving as a team,” Murray said.
The growth across the roster has already made an impact.
“I am really happy with the team this year,” Murray said. “Everyone has improved so much since last season, so I think we’re going to do really good this year.”
With returning leadership, strengthened chemistry and a group determined to build on last year’s postseason run, the Eagles enter the season with a clear identity and high expectations.
Their first game is set for early December, following two preseason scrimmages. Come support the girls soccer team at their first home game on Dec. 2 against Ventura.
