The Oak Park High School girls varsity soccer team is halfway through their season and have won six games, tied one and lost one. Throughout this successful season, the athletes have learned a lot.
“This season I think that everyone is more motivated and more focused to do their best,” freshman offensive midfielder Charlotte Ben said.
This season’s success was a result of last year’s growth and loss.
“After last season’s tough losses we really bounced back and grew, as a team and individually,” sophomore forward Isabel Accomazzo said.
This year, the players are focusing more on progressing farther in the league.
“A major focus so far has obviously been winning, but really we want to finish better in the league since we’ve been putting in so much hard work, and it would be amazing to see that pay off in the playoffs,” Accomazo said. “But another major focus is bonding with the team, I’ve made so many amazing connections and look forward to making more.”
Their drive to win and succeed has taken this team very far.
“I feel like we’re so driven to win this year and we took soccer way more seriously both in preseason and during season,” Accomazo said.
Most players on the girls soccer team have continued to explore their passion and love for this sport.
“This season we [the soccer players] all have so much more passion for the sport and love, we really do care a lot about this team, and I feel like right now that is showing through our results,” sophomore goalie Emma Schertz said.
OPHS students should also come support our girls soccer program.
“The students and fans should come support us because we have improved so much and won a lot of our games, and the more support the better, it really drives us as a team to become better for them [the fans],” Accomazo said.
A better turnout at games also motivates players to become the best version of themselves possible.
“Girls soccer this year is doing really well and we will make it to the playoffs. When we have fans it really brings up our morale and motivates us to do better and play as good as we can. It also just makes a better environment in general,” Ben said.
Having a good last season with the seniors on soccer is also very important to the players.
“For our seniors this year we want to end off on a good note, and know that we tried our hardest and progressed as much as we can,” Accomazzo said.
