Oak Park High School swim team competed against Moorpark and Royal this week in their annual triad meet on March 10. OPHS ended up sweeping the competition and won every division against both schools.
The meet marked the beginning of competition for the Eagles, bringing swimmers from all three schools together for a full afternoon of individual and relay events.Â
“This is the start of our meet season where we’re competing against other high schools in the area,” senior Jerry Jin said. “Eventually, this will lead up to our Coastal Canyon League competition.”
Oak Park athletes competed across a range of races, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, along with multiple relay events.
“Each swimmer gets up to four events to compete in,” Jin said.

With 40 students competing, OPHS swim is stronger than ever. Freshman Noemie Dysart, who competed in four events, talks about their strengths.
“I’m pretty excited to compete because I’ve been training the entire year,” Dysart said. “I think it’s gonna be really fun and I enjoy the high school meets.”
Athletes take measures before and after races to make sure they are properly warmed up and recovered, helping prevent injury and maintain strong performance throughout the meet.
“I usually do a 200 free to warm up, and a couple of 50s as well as some sprints to warm up,” senior Trey Williams said. “We do warm-downs, and the idea is to start fast and end slow.”
The meet provided an early opportunity for the team to evaluate strengths and continue building momentum for the remainder of the season as competition continues.
Come support the team at their next meet on March 17 against Viewpoint High School.
