Oak Park High School’s boys golf team is midway through their season and has been pushing hard to improve as their season continues. With a mix of experienced upperclassmen and underclassmen, this year’s golf team is continuing to build experience throughout the season.
“The biggest improvement I have seen is the freshmen stepping up, they have really become a key part of the team and pick up the slack for some of the upperclassmen,” sophomore Grant Shaw said.
The boys have been working hard throughout the season to build teamwork and have been focusing on making each game better than the last. Setbacks have happened, but the team looks at them as motivation to work harder rather than a defeat.
“There was a game where we were heavily favored and ended up losing by just two shots, but it gave us some pep in our step to lock in,” Shaw said.
With league finals approaching, players are focused on improving their performance.
“We are trying to make sure we are sharp, especially with us going into the league finals next week. Hopefully everything goes well,” Shaw said.
Players are working to refine their skills and better understand the course ahead of the upcoming match.
“We really want to play our best, and at least win the next game, and try to end the season on a high note,” sophomore Patrick Thayer said.
As the season nears its end, the team is also prioritizing preparation and awareness on the course.
“We just want to become more prepared—learning the course and becoming more knowledgeable. We aren’t the best right now, but we are always trying to improve and work on our team dynamic,” Shaw said.
